Long time no blog post! Jon and I spent the summer back home in Columbus, Ohio. Highlights = family, my girlfriends, sunshine, church, road trips, reservoir runs/walks, weddings and good food.
I’m a lucky little bean and have seen quite a few places around this world. One of the most frequent questions I get throughout the summer is… “Where has been your favorite place to travel to?” That question is like the guy at Chipotle asking, “Which salsa would you like on your burrito bowl?” Um, ALL THE SALSAS! But in order to be helpful (and socially appropriate) I usually include my trip to Austria as one of my favorite adventures!
I traveled through Austria with Katy, my mermaid soul sister who I met in Izmir, Turkey. Our husbands’ jobs brought us Midwestern girls across the world and into a fabulous friendship.
Our Austrian adventure started in the city of Salzburg. Salzburg is most commonly known for two things, The Sound of Music and the home of Mozart.
Our hotel was great. The concierge was extremely helpful, room size was decent (for Europe) and the location could not have been more perfect! Mirabell Palace and Gardens, Mozart’s Residence and the top rated restaurants in Salzburg were steps away from our hotel.
The pink building is Mozart’s Residence turned museum.
Salzach River runs through Salzburg, separating the old and new parts of the city. The walking bridge is starting to fill up with “lovers locks“, like the one in Paris.
Panoramic views of Salzburg and the eastern alps after we climbed and toured Salzburg Fortness (Festung Hohensalzburg).
The next day we went on The Sound of Music Tour (the highlight of our stay in Salzburg). The tour took us to all the original film settings throughout Salzburg and the Lake District.
“Do, Re, Mi” scene was shot here at Mirabell Palace and Gardens.
Katy and I in front of Leopoldskron Palace that represented the Von Trapp Residence in the film.
One of the most famous and romantic scenes in the musical, “I am 16 going on 17” was shot here at Hellbrunn Palace.
Our subtle Sound of Music Tour bus.
Next the bus took us to Salzburg Lake District Area where panorama shots and scenes of the picnic were filmed.
As tour members were capturing their last photos of Lake District, Katy and I slipped away from the crowd and onto a different bus. Yes, we ditched our Sound of Music Tour to catch a city bus to the train station that would lead to a new adventure.
Stay tuned for a few of my favorite things about the village of Hallstatt .. my FAVORITE place in Austria!
